Chief Zzeh Gittlit School (CZGS) is located in the community of Old Crow, Yukon Territory. Old Crow is a remote, fly-in community in northern Yukon, 112 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Approximately 245 people live in Old Crow. Approximately 30 students attend CZGS and most are members of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation.    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent degree;
• Training and/or experience in teaching at an intermediate level (grades 4-7);
• Experience teaching in a multi-grade class would be an asset.

   

  DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

• Strong classroom management, planning and organizational skills;
• Training and/or experience delivering a balanced literacy program;
• Training and/or experience using current, research-based assessment for learning;
• Training and/or experience teaching students performing at wide ranging levels of development;
• Training and/or experience teaching students with developmental and behavioural challenges;
• Ability to support and implement Student Learning Plans and Individual Education Plans;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively with students, parents, staff members, administrators, and consultants;
• Extra coursework in special education;
• Experience and interest in land-based, experiential education;
• Ability to support and integrate self-regulation, trauma-informed care, positive well-being, and restorative practices in the classroom and school setting;
• A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally-diverse student population;
• Recent Experience working with First Nations students in an educational setting;
• Willingness to live and participate as a member of a small fly-in community.

   

  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;
• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check;
• Relocation may be available;
• In communities outside Whitehorse, there may be affordable, shared, though sometimes modest, rental accommodation provided by Yukon Housing Corporation.
